Adults inhabit coral and rocky reefs in coastal areas and outer slopes. Forms large and small aggregations
Found singly or in small groups over coral rich areas of shallow and deeper waters.
Length – 22cm
Depth – 5-50m
Widespread Indian Ocean
Most Snappers live in moderate depths, however there are a few that live much deeper. Juveniles found on inshore reefs.
They are nocturnal predators that mainly feed on fish, but will eat crustaceans, gastropods and cephalopods.
Some smaller family members eat zooplankton.
